Request a Repeat Prescription

Request Timeline

Please allow at least 3 full working days for prescriptions to be processed.  Please remember to take weekends and bank holidays into account.

We do not allow requests for repeat medication to be made by phone for safety reasons.  This is recommended practice.  We are sorry if this causes you inconvenience.

Delayed Medication Requests

For most medications it is safe to miss a couple of doses if you are late with your repeat medication request.
Our Pharmacy and Reception Teams are only permitted to place urgent requests for medication for specific medications.
The full list of medications, and also listed by condition can be found on our Urgent Medications page.
PLEASE NOTE - Even if a urgent medication request is granted and a prescription created, it will still take time for a pharmacy to receive the information and make up the medication.

Repeat Medication Dispensing

If you, or someone you care for, use the same medicines regularly, you may be able to benefit from repeat dispensing from your pharmacist.  This means you won't have to visit the surgery every time you need more medicines.

By Post

You can post your prescription slip or written request to us at the Practice

You must include a stamped addressed envelope for return by post if you will not be able to pick up your prescription from the Surgery. Please allow at least seven days if requesting your medication by post.

When will your repeat prescription be ready?

  • We can receive over 400 requests for repeat medication each day.
  • Each of these requests needs to be processed, reviewed, and signed by a GP
  • We aim to process your prescription within 3 full working days
  • We process prescriptions AM and PM. This will affect when your prescription is ready.
  • Please note there are very few medicines where it is dangerous to miss a few doses. The GPs have given the Reception Team a list of the priority medicines.
  • Please do not call to ask for urgent processing for your prescription if your medicine is not a priority

You can help us speed up the process by:

Medication Reviews

Patients on repeat medication will be asked at least once a year to review these; certain medication may require more regular review. A notification message should appear on your repeat prescription slip when one is due.

Medication reviews are undertaken by the GP and can either be a face-to-face appointment or alternatively more are being undertaken over the telephone as a telephone consultation.

There are a couple of exceptions where our nursing staff will review medication if you attend one of our specialist clinics e.g. diabetes or asthma but it is always good to check if you are not sure.

As soon as you get this message on your prescription slip and to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions please book an appointment which could be a telephone consultation or a face-to-face appointment.
